Critical Asset Return
A critical business asset is outside your control and must be brought back under it. You tell us where it is. We take it from there.
The defining condition
Someone else is holding your asset.
A business laptop left at a hotel after the traveller flew home. A device held by a third party. Equipment in a venue's lost-and-found. A tool with a custodian who has no reason to release it to a stranger. The location is known; operational control over the asset is not.
Critical Asset Return applies when a business-critical asset is outside your control and has to be brought back under it.
Defined by control, not by speed
Critical Asset Return is defined by the business-critical asset being outside the customer's control and needing to be brought back under that control — not by how quickly it needs to travel.
That distinction is operational, not semantic. Whether the asset must be back within hours because of a compliance window, or simply as soon as practical, it is the same product and the same work: establishing control before establishing movement.
Why "critical" is about consequence
The word describes what the loss of control costs you — information-security or data-protection exposure, compliance obligations, asset-control requirements, business continuity, contractual consequences, financial exposure. You tell us what is at stake; we do not need it to fit a category.
What AAT Forwarding does — and does not do
AAT Forwarding is not an investigation, tracing or search service. You supply the specific location. We verify with that location, coordinate access and release, obtain custody, transport the asset and complete a confirmed handover.
If the location you named confirms the asset is not there, we do not widen the search — no other hotels, no tracing, no open-ended enquiry. You supply a corrected location and we proceed from there. Saying this plainly is more useful to you than implying a capability we do not have.
How a Critical Asset Return runs
You tell us where it is.
A specific place: the hotel, the venue, the office, the custodian. Confirmed, or believed — both are workable, and we treat them differently.
We contact the named custodian.
We verify with that location and establish who can authorise release, and under what conditions.
Release is arranged.
Identification, authorisation and release conditions are handled directly with the party holding the asset.
We take custody.
Custody passes to AAT Forwarding and is documented from that moment.
It travels under supervision.
Where our operations team determines it appropriate, by dedicated on-board courier.
It is back under your control.
Handover to a named recipient, evidenced. Control is restored, not merely promised.
Execution may use a courier. That does not change the product.
Where appropriate, the physical return is carried out by a dedicated on-board courier. That is an execution decision made by our operations team — not a reclassification. A Critical Asset Return carried by an OBC courier is still a Critical Asset Return.

What is Critical Asset Return?
Critical Asset Return is the controlled return of a critical business asset that is currently outside your control and must be brought back under it. The defining condition is the loss of control — not how quickly the asset needs to travel.
Is Critical Asset Return a faster or slower transport option?
Neither. It is a distinct product because the business situation is distinct. Whether the asset must be back within hours or simply as soon as practical, it remains a Critical Asset Return. Urgency never changes the product type.
Does AAT Forwarding find or trace missing items?
No. AAT Forwarding does not provide search, tracing or investigation. You supply the specific location. We verify with that location, coordinate access and release, take custody, return the asset and confirm handover.
What if the asset is not at the location I gave you?
We contact the location you named to verify whether the asset is there. If that location confirms it is not, we do not widen the search — no other hotels, no tracing, no investigation. You supply a corrected location and we proceed from there.
A laptop was left in a hotel after our employee flew home. Is that this?
Yes. The device is outside your control and someone else is holding it. That is a Critical Asset Return, whether the exposure is information security, data protection, compliance, asset control or business continuity.
Can a Critical Asset Return be carried by an on-board courier?
Yes. Where our operations team determines it appropriate, the physical return may be executed by a dedicated on-board courier. That is an execution decision and does not change the product: it remains a Critical Asset Return.
